He is an awesome artist. I have not found a single painting to dislike. He worked in complete seclusion and painted each one of these visions without the feedback of the artist community. So, he is ranked in my mind as self-taught, unique, and powerful. I think his art should be treasured by Wisconsin as a rare gift which future Wisconsin artists should look at, admire, ponder, and learn from. This is what can be done by someone following their own bliss, unencumbered by critique or feedback. How is this possible in an art world reliant on what others say is important, good, or bad? Here in Gilardi is the triumph of true creation, which astonishes and generates immediacy beyond anyone else. He holds a light for us all, where no light ever was before.
